National Flower Day

Are you ready to celebrate?! It's National Flower Day!

It's hard to imagine a more beautiful holiday than one filled with flowers (although we fully admit: we might be a little biased!).

You might not have known you needed to mark your calendar for this one... National Flower Day is a lesser-known holiday, even though it's been around for a long time. Celebrated every year on March 21st, it is an annual opportunity to plant flowers, pick a bouquet, or send an arrangement to someone you love. At the very least—you can spend an extra moment or two appreciating the beautiful flowers blooming all around us!

Since ancient times, people have revered flowers for their natural beauty and delicate fragrances. Flowers are associated with everything from romance and medicine to religious rituals and even gourmet recipes. We seek them in nature, we add them to our home décor, and we give them as gifts to friends. Flowers are often used to mark special occasions: weddings, social events, christenings, and funerals to name a few. But, as we all know... flowers can brighten anyone's day, even without a particular occasion!

Some flowers also serve a more practical purpose. There are floral varieties that we often use in our kitchens—and you may not even think about it! Broccoli, cauliflower, artichoke, and capers are all variations of flower vegetables. Other blooms like crocus (which produces saffron) are used to create spices that lend intricate flavor to our recipes. Flowers are even used as hops to make beer, and may add floral flavor to wine (like dandelion and elderflower). Of course, flowers can also be used to create a wide variety of herbal teas.

Flowers are a form of communicating our loving remembrance or a romantic gesture; they have long captivated artists and poets with their beauty. One thing is for sure: flowers bring abundant joy to our lives, today and for all of history.

So, today, how will you celebrate National Flower Day? Will you send a bouquet to a friend, or perhaps stop to enjoy the colorful blooms outside your window?

If we can help craft a flower arrangement for you, don't hesitate to reach out. We love working with nature's beauty to bring creative floral designs to life! Happy National Flower Day!

In the words of Claude Monet: "I must have flowers, always and always."
